In the decades since June West Brandt's older brother was killed in World War II, she has never forgotten her kind and artistic sibling.
Brandt, 93, was delighted to discover that a Dutch couple, Lisa and Guido Meijers, regularly visit a marker for her brother at a Netherlands cemetery.
“It’s wonderful for me to know that someone is there,”
said Brandt, who lives near Houston. The introduction came via a new initiative aiming to increase connections between family members of those buried and remembered at the WWII cemetery and the Dutch people who have adopted each one.
Author's summary: Project unites Americans with Dutch honoring WWII relatives.
