Grammar Schools Dominate GCSE League Tables
Grammar schools are back at the top of GCSE league tables as the Progress 8 performance measure has been paused for two years due to Covid-related SATs cancellations.
Progress 8, which measures the progress between the end of primary school and GCSEs, cannot be calculated this year and next. Instead, the government's performance website now ranks schools by Attainment 8, scoring pupils across eight subjects, including English and maths.
- Last year, 15 of the top 50 highest P8 scores were grammar schools.
- This year, all but one of the top 50 schools are selective intake schools, with high-performing pupils on entry.
- Michaela Community School in west London is the only state school in the top 50, ranking 47th.
