Proposition one in Yakima's ballots could cost the taxpayers or the city money

Yakima's Budget Reductions and Proposed Levy

The Yakima City Council will face budget reductions regardless of the election outcome.

A $9 million shortfall has been identified, with $3 million in cuts to services already planned.

"Because the city has identified overall a $9 million shortfall," said Bud Backer, the chairman of Yes for Yakima. "They've already essentially set out what will be $3 million in cuts to services, and they're hoping that this levy, if it passes, will fill the other $6 million gap."
"But if you vote yes, we can maintain the services that we have today."

Author's summary: Yakima faces budget cuts and a proposed levy to maintain public safety services.
