Yakima's Budget Reductions and Proposed Levy
The Yakima City Council will face budget reductions regardless of the election outcome.
A $9 million shortfall has been identified, with $3 million in cuts to services already planned.
"Because the city has identified overall a $9 million shortfall," said Bud Backer, the chairman of Yes for Yakima. "They've already essentially set out what will be $3 million in cuts to services, and they're hoping that this levy, if it passes, will fill the other $6 million gap."
- The proposed levy would cost the owner of a $400,000 property $200 next year.
- The levy aims to maintain existing public safety services in Yakima.
"But if you vote yes, we can maintain the services that we have today."
