Scottish Corporate Insolvencies Increase by 41% in September

According to the latest figures, there were 103 company insolvencies registered in Scotland in September, a 41% increase compared to the same month last year.

The breakdown of insolvencies includes 50 company voluntary liquidations, 48 compulsory liquidations, and five administrations. No company voluntary arrangements or receivership appointments were recorded.

Michelle Elliot, restructuring advisory partner at FRP in Glasgow, commented that next month’s Budget will be decisive in shaping the near-term operating landscape.

The total insolvency rate in Scotland for the 12 months to September was 52.2 per 10,000 companies, a decrease of 0.3 from the previous 12 months. Additionally, between June 2020 and September 2025, there were three restructuring plans and one moratorium in Scotland.
