Actor Robert Lesser recounts meeting Diane Keaton at the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York City when she was 19.
While driving to Los Angeles, Lesser received a call from his wife, Annie, with sad news: Diane Keaton had passed away at 79.
She was 79, I’m older, so how ever could that be?
Lesser and Keaton met in 1965 as first-year acting students at the Neighborhood Playhouse, where Keaton, then known as Diane Hall, was a newcomer to New York City from Orange County, Calif.
At the time, Keaton was staying at The Rehearsal Club, a strictly women's boarding house on West 53rd Street, while Lesser had his first New York apartment.
