One in five Spaniards believe Franco era was 'good' or 'very good'

Spaniards' Views on Franco Era

A recent national survey in Spain has revealed that one in five Spaniards believe the 36-year Franco dictatorship was either 'good' or 'very good' for the country.

The survey, conducted by the Centro de Investigaciones Sociologicas (CIS), found that 21.3% of respondents viewed Franco's rule positively, with 16.8% describing it as 'good' and 4.5% as 'very good'.

In contrast, 39.1% of respondents described Franco's regime as 'very bad' and 26.4% as 'bad', while 6.1% called it 'so-so' and 7.2% either did not know or refused to answer.

Notably, the positive view of Franco's era was not limited to older generations, but was also shared among young adults aged 18 to 24.

The finding comes just weeks before the 50th anniversary of the dictator's death on November 20, 1975.

Author's summary: One in five Spaniards view Franco's era positively.
