NASA's OSIRIS-APEX mission has been saved from cancellation in a last-minute decision, with a $20 million allocation in the House budget bill to continue basic operations for the next fiscal year.
"We were incredibly relieved and grateful," said Dani Mendoza DellaGiustina, principal investigator of OSIRIS-APEX at the University of Arizona.
The mission aims to fly a spaceship alongside a potentially hazardous asteroid in 2029, known as the "God of Chaos" asteroid.
