Ribble Valley Councillors Vote to Prioritize Environmental Considerations

A majority of Ribble Valley councillors have backed a Green-led call to declare a climate emergency and embed environmental considerations into the council's decisions.

Recommendations included Ribble Valley political leaders and top officers taking responsibility for embedding climate considerations in decisions.

The motion, put forward by Green councillors Malcolm Peplow and Gaye McCrum, argued that evidence of climate change is now widespread, including in Ribble Valley farming, floods, and heat waves.

But action can still help ease the worst effects, so councils must play their part and encourage wider action.

The motion was backed by Green, Labour, and Progressive-Liberals, as well as some Lib-Dem and independent councillors.
