Optus Announces New CFO and CIO
Optus has unveiled several management changes, including the replacement of CFO Michael Venter and the departure of CIO Mark Potter in March 2026.
Venter, who was appointed CFO in 2021 and also served as a director, is retiring and will be replaced by Andy Giles Knopp from Aussie Broadband in April.
- Andy Giles Knopp previously served as CEO and CFO at OneFortyOne and held divisional CFO roles at Telstra.
- John McInerney, formerly CIO and head of transformation at One New Zealand, will replace Mark Potter as CIO.
- Pieter van der Merwe will join as chief security and risk officer in December.
These changes come after Optus experienced a second outage of its emergency call system in late September, less than two years after a major outage affecting up to 10 million customers.
