Power Shifts at the Top: Tambulasi Takes Over MRA, Mbeta Named Attorney General
Malawi has seen a dramatic shake-up at the heart of government institutions, with private practice lawyer Felix Tambulasi being appointed Commissioner General of the Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA).
This move is seen as President Peter Mutharika’s intent to tighten his grip on key state agencies, replacing Dan Daka, who exits the tax body after just over a year at the helm.
"I can confirm that we have a new Commissioner General, and he is Mr. Felix Tambulasi,"
said Chief Secretary to the Government Justin Saidi, without disclosing Daka’s next posting.
The appointment comes barely weeks after Mutharika’s administration dissolved all parastatal boards, effectively centralizing control under the Office of the President and Cabinet.
This reshuffle raises eyebrows, not only for its timing but also for its political undertones.
