Ukraine's Poultry Sector Expansion Amidst War Pressures
Despite the challenges posed by the ongoing war, Ukraine's poultry industry continues to grow, driven by large, vertically integrated producers.
According to a recent USDA-FAS report, these companies control nearly the entire chicken meat supply chain, overseeing crop production, feed processing, breeding, slaughter, and distribution.
- Chicken meat accounts for almost all poultry output in Ukraine.
- Other bird species represent less than 3% of industrial production in 2024.
- Household farms contribute about 8%, mostly for family consumption.
The market is highly concentrated, with MHP SE controlling 54% of total output, and mid-sized companies Dniprovska Ptahofabryka, Agro-Oven, and Avesterra Group holding another 15%.
No room for contract farming with small, independent producers.
