Phishing Scam Targets Auburn Students
October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, and a recent phishing scam has highlighted the importance of identifying and reporting scams to protect oneself and others.
A phishing email was sent to hundreds of Auburn students, including Sophia Weber, with the subject "AUBURN IT SUPPORT ACTION REQUIRED". The email claimed that her Auburn account would be terminated and instructed her to scan a QR code to cancel the termination process.
The attached QR code linked to a form where Weber entered sensitive information, such as her password and student ID number.
This incident emphasizes the need for awareness and vigilance in identifying and reporting phishing scams.
