GVL without an interleague opponent after O&M locks in two-year deal with country foe

GVL Left Without Interleague Opponent

The rivalry between the Goulburn Valley League and the Ovens and Murray League has come to an end, at least for now.

The Ovens and Murray League has signed a two-year interleague deal with the Bendigo Football Netball League, closing the chapter on their competition for the Ash-Wilson Trophy that started in 1954.

Recently, the O&M has had more success, winning three out of four football matches between 2022-2025.

The GVL's operations manager, Brad Noonan, stated that the league was only informed of the decision last week and it is unclear if they have an alternative interleague opponent lined up for the next two years.

The fortunes have favoured the black and gold in recent years.

Author's summary: GVL loses interleague opponent to Bendigo Football Netball League.
