A 36-year-old Sudbury woman, Gisele Dick, has been fined $2,500 and lost her driver's licence for 18 months for speeding while driving drunk.
Unfortunately, I acted instead of thinking. I take full responsibility.
During her sentencing at the Sudbury court, Ontario Court Justice Leonard Kim questioned Dick about her use of pain medication, as she had broken her arm. Dick replied that she was not on medication at the time of the incident, but had some in her purse.
Justice Kim noted that the Intoxilyzer readings were extremely high, even without the influence of medication. Dick explained that she had received a life-threatening phone call, which prompted her to drive.
Justice Kim suggested that Dick should have called Emergency Services instead of getting behind the wheel.
