As the government shutdown continues, thousands of local families who rely on federal food assistance are facing uncertainty. The SNAP program, which supports over 600,000 participants in Missouri, including 264,000 children, and 182,000 people in Kansas, with nearly 77,000 being children, is set to run out of funding on Saturday.
"I fed my son, he ate, every night. But me, on the other hand, didn’t," said Teresa Grado, co-owner of Lilly’s Cantina. "So, I get it."
In response to the crisis, Grado has decided to offer free meals to children at her restaurant, starting on Saturday. The meals may vary, but her goal is to provide for those in need.
