Kate Hanch reflects on the passing of her two grandmothers and a dear friend, stating, "All three women shaped me for who I am today, and I carry their memories continually."
Secretly they continue to live within us and through us
In 2023, her grandmothers passed away within six weeks of each other, in January and February. Shortly after, a friend was diagnosed with terminal cancer and chose not to pursue further treatment. The friend's church hosted a celebration of life over Memorial Day weekend, which coincided with Pentecost, and she was able to experience it with loved ones before passing away a week later.
This experience gave new meaning to All Saints Day for Kate Hanch, who found comfort in the "Great Cloud of Witnesses" metaphor in Hebrews 12 and the "faithful hall of fame" in Hebrews 11. She notes that the year brought new additions to the "great cloud, that communion of saints."
