The Fire Danger Period will commence on Monday, November 3, for Campaspe shire, as confirmed by the CFA.
Residents are advised to prepare their properties by cleaning up dry grass and leaves and completing safe private burn-offs while permitted, to avoid penalties over $21,000 and prison.
“After much consultation, there was strong support for introducing the fire danger period now to keep our communities as safe as possible,”
said Deputy Chief Officer for the north-west region Trevor Weston, emphasizing the importance of taking early action as the region continues to dry.
Weston noted that despite grasslands appearing green in some areas, the ground underneath is drier than in previous years, making fires more likely to spread.
