Arkansas Food Banks Receive $500K Grant Amid Government Shutdown Impact

Arkansas food banks are getting a boost as the state prepares to distribute a $500,000 grant to help feed families impacted by the ongoing government shutdown.

Sylvia Blain, CEO of the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance, expressed gratitude for the funds, but emphasized the need is greater. She noted that the SNAP program provides nine meals for every one meal charities can offer.

"We are absolutely grateful and really to see that $500,000 come to the state first thing next week. So it is much needed," said Blain.

The grant will be distributed to the six Feeding American food banks across the state, which are doing their best to meet the increased need. Blain hopes lawmakers will reach a compromise soon to reopen the government.
