Power lines, roads, and bridges were damaged, and more than half a million people were left without electricity.
Kimisha Simpson expressed confidence that Jamaica's national motto will rally the diaspora and others to help rebuild the island.
“We’re the heartbeat of the Caribbean,”
she said, adding that Jamaica has given much to the world, including entertainment, arts, culture, food, tourism, and hospitality.
“And so knowing the devastation is unlike anything they’ve ever seen in centuries, it’s definitely time for the world to give back to Jamaica.”
