A Houlton man charged with gross sexual assault and kidnapping was transferred Thursday to a care home in Lewiston after a judge approved a change in his bail order.
Caleb Thompson, 21, who is autistic, was arrested and jailed on August 22 following reports from family members to the Houlton Police Department. They suspected he had held a young woman with special needs captive for a week in his grandparents’ home on Madigan Street while repeatedly sexually assaulting her, according to court documents.
Initially, Judge Robert Langner set a $5,000 cash bail for Thompson. He was released on 24/7 house arrest with GPS monitoring. On Monday, the judge approved a motion to change bail terms, allowing Thompson to reside temporarily in a supervised home in Lewiston operated by DIRIGO Support Professionals, which provides round-the-clock monitoring.
