Cameron Norrie overcame a strong challenge from French contender Kyrian Jacquet at the Moselle Open on Thursday. As the last remaining seed in the ATP 250 event, Norrie won the final 11 points of the two-hour, 25-minute match to secure his spot in the semi-finals.
“He surprised me a lot,” Norrie said about Jacquet, the third French player he defeated this week. “He mixed things up really well — lots of slicing, then suddenly very aggressive. His serve is excellent. The French have so many good players, all with different styles. I liked his fighting spirit; he could have won the match in the second set, but I stayed tough.”
Jacquet struck 48 winners, half from his forehand, while Norrie tallied 28. Yet the 30-year-old Briton found his best level at the crucial moments to advance to the final four.
Italy’s Lorenzo Sonego, who lifted the Metz trophy in 2022, will look to continue his strong history at the event. Norrie now targets his sixth ATP title and his first since 2023 in Rio de Janeiro, where he defeated Carlos Alcaraz in the final.
In another quarter-final, rising #NextGenATP talent Learner Tien came from behind to defeat Matteo Berrettini 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 in one hour and 44 minutes, progressing to his second tour-level semi-final. The 19-year-old American won all three of his break points in their first career meeting, according to Infosys ATP Stats.
Norrie triumphed in a thrilling Metz quarter-final, showing resilience against Jacquet, while Tien impressed with a comeback win over Berrettini.
