Austin Infant Found Safe After Amber Alert
A 50-day-old baby named Armani Woods was safely recovered in Austin following an Amber Alert. Authorities arrested the infant's mother, Kayla Washington, and another individual, Avery Rider.
Details of the Incident
The Austin community was alarmed on Tuesday when an Amber Alert was issued for Armani Woods. The alert came after Child Protective Services (CPS) reported the child missing and issued a removal order against the mother. Upon learning of this, Washington fled with her infant.
The Missing Persons Unit quickly launched an investigation. Using information from CPS and on-scene officers, police identified Washington as a suspect and Rider as an accomplice potentially helping her evade authorities.
Arrest and Recovery
The two were located near North Lamar Boulevard by Austin Police. Washington was carrying Armani at the time of arrest and was charged with kidnapping, along with an unrelated outstanding warrant. Rider was arrested in a nearby vehicle and charged with resisting arrest.
CBS Austin stated: "Washington had fled with her child upon learning that Child Protective Services had issued a removal order."
Infant’s Condition and Custody
Woods appeared unharmed during recovery. Emergency medical services evaluated the infant before transferring custody back to CPS.
