The Diocese of Auchi in Nigeria has announced the tragic death of a young seminarian who was kidnapped alongside two others in July. According to Father Linus Imoedemhe, assistant director of communications for the diocese, two of the abducted students, Japhet Jesse and Joshua Aleobua, were released, while the third, Emmanuel Alabi, lost his life during the ordeal.
Bishop Gabriel Dunia of Auchi expressed his profound sorrow and urged security agencies to intensify efforts to safeguard the lives and property of all citizens.
The diocesan statement further affirmed that Auchi remains steadfast in its faith, peace, and justice, trusting in God’s mercy to bring solace to the bereaved family, the seminary community, and everyone touched by this loss.
The abduction occurred on July 10 when armed men attacked the Immaculate Conception Minor Seminary. The seminarians were aged between 14 and 17. During the assault, a security guard, Christopher Aweneghieme, was killed, as reported by Vatican News.
In the days following the attack, Bishop Dunia informed Fides, the news agency of the Pontifical Mission Societies, that the kidnappers had reached out to the diocese with ransom demands.
A community mourns the death of young seminarian Emmanuel Alabi after a tragic kidnapping in Nigeria, renewing calls for stronger protection of citizens.
