The Miami Heat's depth challenge at the center position was visible even before Bam Adebayo exited in the first quarter of Wednesday night’s 122-112 loss to the Denver Nuggets.
Following the game, an MRI conducted Thursday revealed that Adebayo suffered a sprain to his left big toe. As a result, he will miss Friday night’s matchup against the Charlotte Hornets at Kaseya Center and will be evaluated on a day-to-day basis.
In response to Adebayo’s absence, the Heat recalled center Vlad Goldin from the G League. The team’s center depth had already been thin, leaving few reliable options after Adebayo left the floor at Ball Arena.
Miami will host the Portland Trail Blazers on Saturday, marking their second consecutive home game at Kaseya Center following the Hornets matchup.
“When it comes to the center position, there previously wasn’t much there in the first place,” Adebayo’s absence underscored the lack of depth, leaving what felt like “a last man standing.”
Veteran guard Norman Powell also noted the team’s limitations, acknowledging that Miami entered the season with only Adebayo and second-year player Kel’el Ware as dependable center options.
