Justin Rose's management told Today's Golfer that the English golfer plans to focus on playing in one more Ryder Cup before considering a captaincy role.
The choice for Europe’s next Ryder Cup captain appears to come down to just two candidates. Earlier, Rose expressed a strong desire to captain the team at Adare Manor in 2027, promising to “give everything” when his time arrives.
However, after winning the FedEx St Jude Championship, Rose secured an automatic spot on Luke Donald’s team at Bethpage. His performance in New York, where he added two points to reach 17½ in personal Ryder Cup points and entered the all-time top 10, has reignited his passion to compete again.
“I’m not sure that’s a role we should be entertaining really,” Rose said, referring to the possibility of a player-captain role.
According to sources close to Rose, he aims to participate in the Ryder Cup for an eighth time. His team confirmed to Today's Golfer that he wants to play again but has not yet had discussions with Ryder Cup Europe officials as he enjoys downtime after an intense schedule of 20 events in eight months.
Rose remains committed to competing once more in the Ryder Cup before stepping into a leadership position, firmly distancing himself from the idea of simultaneously serving as a player and captain.
Justin Rose prioritizes extending his Ryder Cup playing career, postponing captaincy ambitions until after he retires from active competition.
