Families living near a Birmingham intersection report that it is dangerous because many drivers fail to stop at the four-way signs. The crossroads of Eton and Sheffield, near Woodward Avenue and West 14 Mile, has become a point of concern for local residents.
“It’s an accident waiting to happen,”
said Kimberly, a Birmingham resident who often witnesses drivers speeding or rolling through stop signs.
Local 4 visited the intersection on a weekday morning to observe traffic behavior. While no speeding was seen, numerous vehicles slowed down but did not make a complete stop. Kimberly explained that she tries to avoid the intersection whenever possible.
“We have a lot of people walking dogs, pushing strollers, jogging, and biking,”
she said. “Drivers fly through the intersection without paying attention to anyone around them.”
The posted speed limit in this residential area is 25 mph, but residents claim many drivers exceed it. Kimberly’s husband, Tim, noted the dangers of driving there.
“Most people are going much faster than that. I’ve even been passed on Eton while doing 25,”
Tim said, expressing concern about reckless drivers.
“I’m paranoid when I have to cross here,”
Kimberly admitted. She and her husband frequently walk around their neighborhood and say they feel unsafe. The couple believes safety improvements, such as clearer signage or stronger enforcement, could help make the area safer for pedestrians.
