Warriors without Curry, Butler and Green for their matchup vs. Kings

Warriors Face Kings Without Curry, Butler and Green

SACRAMENTO — Stephen Curry did not join the Golden State Warriors on their late Tuesday bus ride to Sacramento. By Wednesday’s tip-off against the Kings, Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler were also unavailable.

With the team missing its three top stars, coach Steve Kerr adjusted the lineup, starting rookie guard Will Richard, second-year center Quentin Post, shooting guard Moses Moody, along with Brandin Podziemski and Jonathan Kuminga. None of them had more than four years of NBA experience, marking the team’s youngest starting group since April 26, 2012—two years before Kerr became head coach. That earlier lineup included Klay Thompson among its starters.

“Obviously it’s more difficult when you’re missing your stars, but it’s a great opportunity for a lot of guys,” Kerr said before the game. He added that he wanted to see “energy, pace” and aggressive offense, while maintaining strong defense throughout the full 48 minutes.

The challenge was somewhat eased by the Kings also dealing with numerous injuries.
