The New York Knicks defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday night, 137–114, in a commanding performance. The matchup carried emotional weight due to the 2024 trade that sent Karl-Anthony Towns to New York in exchange for Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo.
More than a year after the blockbuster move, Towns still speaks with warmth about his years in Minnesota and the team that drafted him first overall in 2015. Following the Knicks' victory, he was asked about his thoughts on the trade, now roughly 14 months behind him.
“You feel more like a Knick now after what we went through last year to get to the heights we went to. But it's weird when you see that Timberwolves jersey, especially them fire black one's y’all got,” Towns said via The Athletic’s Jon Krawczynski.
“Not being able to see Towns on the back, it's a weird feeling. I love those guys, I love that locker room to death. I’m willing to do anything for them, even if it wasn’t about basketball.”
Towns spent the first nine years of his NBA career with the Timberwolves, and his affection for the franchise remains clear. The trade, however, has brought success to both teams: each reached its respective Conference Finals during the 2024–25 season.
As time goes on, fans and analysts alike will be watching to see which organization ultimately benefits more — and whether one of them can turn the deal into an NBA championship.
Karl-Anthony Towns still cherishes his Minnesota roots while embracing his Knicks role, as both teams enjoy success a year after their transformative 2024 trade.
