Two key Socceroos players return for the upcoming friendlies against Venezuela and Colombia, while a teenage prospect makes his debut in the senior squad.
Seventeen-year-old James Overy from Manchester United has been selected for his first senior Socceroos squad. Turning 18 this weekend, Overy impressed at the U20 World Cup and recently signed his first professional contract with Manchester United.
Born in Perth, Overy is an energetic right-back who previously played for Scotland’s under-19 team before committing to Australia.
Australia will play Venezuela on November 15 (AEDT) in Houston, Texas, followed by a match against Colombia on November 19 (AEDT) in Queens, New York.
Socceroos coach Tony Popovic said he would “cast his selection net wide”, citing injuries to Alessandro Circati, Jordy Bos, Jacob Italiano, and Aziz Behich as factors influencing his squad choices.
James Overy is among 11 new call-ups, signaling a blend of youth and experience in the squad ahead of crucial matches.
This squad update highlights the integration of young talent like Overy alongside returning veterans, showcasing the Socceroos' evolving team dynamics ahead of key friendlies.
