Lucy Liu is embracing a new look with a lob hairstyle, debuting her shortest haircut in years for her role in the upcoming drama Rosemead. The Charlie’s Angels alum appears with a chic, short side-parted style just above her collarbone in the film’s trailer.
Rosemead premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in June and will be released in theaters on December 5. The drama follows Irene (played by Liu) and her son Joe (Lawrence Shou) as they confront the challenges of living with Joe’s schizophrenia diagnosis.
The film is inspired by a 2017 Los Angeles Times article by Frank Shyong titled "A dying mother's plan: Buy a gun. Kill her son."
“As there was not a lot that was known about this family, the script had to be pieced together,” Liu told Variety about Rosemead. “In some ways, it’s a little bit of a thriller, because people know the final act and some of the details, and then the rest had to be kind of filled in, in order to understand the dynamic between Irene and her son.”
This role represents a shift for Liu, moving away from her typical lighthearted and action-driven roles in projects like Ally McBeal, Watching the Detectives, and Why Women Kill.
At the Tribeca premiere, Liu shared more about her interest in Rosemead and similar projects during an interview with Parade.
Summary: Lucy Liu unveils a fresh lob haircut while starring in the intense drama Rosemead, marking a bold shift from her usual roles to a deeply emotional performance.
