Adrian Kempe scored his 200th NHL goal, while Drew Doughty set a new Los Angeles Kings record for most goals by a defenseman. The Kings defeated the Winnipeg Jets 3–0 on Tuesday night.
Goaltender Darcy Kuemper stopped 23 shots, and Kevin Fiala sealed the win with a late power-play goal, giving Los Angeles its first home victory of the season after six attempts.
Connor Hellebuyck also recorded 23 saves for Winnipeg, which suffered its first road defeat after four straight wins. Kempe opened the scoring late in the first period with his sixth goal of the year, finishing a pass from Joel Armia in front of the net.
Kempe became the ninth player from the 2014 draft class to reach 200 career goals, achieving the milestone in 644 games.
Doughty surpassed franchise legend Rob Blake with his 162nd goal, an empty-netter scored with 54 seconds left in regulation. Los Angeles’ lineup adjustments paid off, as Armia moved to the top line and Mikey Anderson rejoined Doughty on defense. Both assisted on Kempe’s opening goal.
Veteran forward Corey Perry reached another career milestone, appearing in his 1,400th NHL game. He became the 44th player in league history to achieve this and joined Brent Burns (1,511), Alex Ovechkin (1,503), and Anze Kopitar (1,464) among active players with that many games played.
The Los Angeles Kings earned their first home victory as Kempe hit 200 goals and Doughty broke a team record, defeating the Jets 3–0 in a strong defensive and milestone-filled performance.
