Mali's Foreign Affairs Ministry has introduced a visa bond requirement for US citizens, mirroring a similar measure enacted by the US.
The ministry stated that US visa applicants will be required to post a bond of up to $10,000, citing the principle of reciprocity.
"In accordance with the principle of reciprocity, Mali has decided to introduce an identical visa program, imposing the same conditions and requirements on US nationals as those applied to Malian citizens,"
The US had previously introduced a visa bond requirement for Malian citizens, citing high overstay rates, screening and vetting deficiencies, and foreign policy considerations.
