Supreme Court to Hear Issue of Judges' Promotions
A Supreme Court constitution bench will hear the issue of judges' promotions on October 28-29.
Some sort of balancing out is needed, some middle way, so that the efficiency of administration of justice is enhanced,
the Chief Justice of India (CJI) had said recently.
The Supreme Court will decide on the issue of promotional avenues for judges and the criteria for determining seniority in the cadre of higher judicial service.
- A five-judge bench led by CJI BR Gavai will hear the case.
- Advocates Mayuri Raghuvanshi and Manu Krishnan have been appointed as nodal counsel.
The issue was referred to a five-judge Constitution bench by a CJI-led bench on October 7.
