Being an MP was in the back of his mind for years, and he acknowledges the responsibility that comes with the trust voters have placed in him.
On April 28, the Belanger family and supporters gathered at a Chelmsford sports bar to watch the election results. As the results were announced, emotions rose, and celebration ensued as it became clear that Belanger had won the vote.
This was a significant upset, as the riding had long been a Liberal or NDP stronghold, with Marc Serre holding the seat for the Liberals since 2015.
Despite initial doubts about a Conservative's chances, Belanger's victory was foreshadowed by his success in the "sign war" across the region.
