Fiery Crash on I-85 in Jackson County
A truck driver has been charged in a crash on I-85 that killed eight members of a Gwinnett County family.
The victims were killed when a semitrailer struck their van, causing it to burst into flames, according to law enforcement.
- The crash occurred on the interstate in Jackson County, about 62 miles northeast of Atlanta.
- The semitrailer was following too close to the Dodge van when the crash happened, authorities said.
The truck driver, identified as 33-year-old Kane Hammock, of Gainesville, was arrested and booked in connection with the crash.

- Eight counts of second-degree vehicular homicide
- Second-degree vehicular feticide
- Following too closely
- Distracted driving
- Operating a vehicle without a current plate
