Inflation sinks to 21-year low on weak demand, stagnation

Inflation Reaches 21-Year Low in Nepal

Nepal's inflation has fallen to a 21-year low, with a record-low rate of 1.87 percent in September, due to weak demand and economic stagnation.

According to the Nepal Rastra Bank, the country's central bank, this is the lowest inflation rate since mid-2003-04, when it was 1.8 percent.

The recent political uncertainty, along with floods and landslides, has further curtailed spending.

Economists attribute this decline to subdued domestic demand, political uncertainty, and disruptions, as well as the growing outflow of students and migrant workers.

Author's summary: Nepal's inflation rate hits 21-year low at 1.87 percent.
