Two years later, no closure for family of missing Ghanaian fisheries observer

Two Years of Uncertainty for Family of Missing Ghanaian Fisheries Observer

Two years after Samuel Abayateye's disappearance from a fishing boat, Ghanaian authorities have not provided any closure for his family.

Abayateye was assigned to the Marine 707, a Ghana-flagged tuna-fishing vessel, when he went missing. His family, along with the Fisheries Alliance and other international organizations, have repeatedly sought answers from the Ghanaian government, but to no avail.

The Ghanaian police did not respond to requests for details about the case.

A DNA test was conducted on a body that washed up near the family home shortly after Abayateye's disappearance, but the results have not been shared with his family. Abayateye, a father of two, was tasked with monitoring the fishing boat.

Author's summary: Family still seeks answers two years after fisheries observer's disappearance.
