Jennifer Lawrence Says Her 'Embarrassing' Interviews Were A 'Defence Mechanism'

Jennifer Lawrence Reflects on Her Past Interviews

Jennifer Lawrence, the Oscar winner, has spoken about her early career interviews, describing them as "embarrassing" and a "defence mechanism".

In a profile published by The New Yorker, Lawrence expressed her feelings about doing press for movies, telling Viola Davis:

Every time I do an interview, I think, ‘I can’t do this to myself again.’ I feel like I lose so much control over my craft when I have to do press for a movie.

Lawrence explained that her genuine personality was also a defence mechanism, saying:

Well, it is, or it was, my genuine personality, but it was also a defence mechanism. And so it was a defence mechanism, to just be, like, ‘I’m not like that! I poop my pants every day!’

She admitted that looking back at those interviews, she finds that person "annoying" and understands why others might feel the same way, even citing Ariana Grande's impression of her on SNL as "spot-on".

Author's summary: Jennifer Lawrence calls her past interviews embarrassing.
