Eastpointe Military Museum Building Turns 70

A history of the Military Museum property on Stephens Road will be presented on November 9, showcasing its transformation from an ice rink to a teen center, temporary City Hall, and finally, a museum.

The property, now home to the Michigan Military Technical and Historical Society Museum, was once a neighborhood ice rink known as Shakespeare's Field. According to Wendy Richardson, Military Museum CFO,

"It was called Shakespeare's Field and it did not even have an address,"
she said. The ice rink remained in operation until tennis courts were installed around 1970.

The building, initially constructed as a teen center after World War II, now celebrates its 70th anniversary. Richardson has conducted extensive research on the property's history and will present

"From Teen Center to Military Museum, The Story of our Building"
at 2 p.m.

Author's summary: Eastpointe Military Museum building marks 70 years.
