Varun Chakaravarthy claimed the prized wicket of Glenn Maxwell during the fourth T20I between India and Australia at Carrara Oval, Queensland, on Thursday, November 6. The leg-spinner dismissed Maxwell for just 2 runs, leaving Australia struggling at 103/6.
The crucial wicket fell in the 15th over of Australia's run chase when Varun bowled a googly. Maxwell, a right-handed batter, tried to play the ball towards the offside but missed completely. The ball struck the top of the off-stump before being caught by the wicketkeeper.
Varun finished with figures of 1/26 in his four overs. Ranked World No.1 in T20I bowling, he has taken five wickets in this series and accumulated 26 wickets across 15 matches this year.
India’s clinical bowling helped them dominate, restricting Australia to 116/8 after 17 overs, with Ben Dwarshuis and Nathan Ellis now at the crease. Axar Patel, Shivam Dube, and Washington Sundar each took two wickets. Apart from Maxwell, Dube dismissed Tim David for 14 off nine balls.
Batting first, India posted 167/8 in their 20 overs. Vice-captain Shubman Gill led the scoreboard with 46 runs off 39 balls, including one six and four boundaries. Abhishek Sharma, Shivam Dube, and skipper Suryakumar Yadav contributed individual scores in the twenties. Axar Patel finished strong with an unbeaten 21 off 11 deliveries.
