SoCal Freeway Shut Down Due to Live Ammunition Event
A 17-mile stretch of the I-5 freeway in Southern California was shut down on Saturday due to a military event involving live ammunition at Camp Pendleton.
The event was part of the U.S. Marine Corps 250th anniversary celebration. The freeway was closed from Harbor Drive in Oceanside to Basilone Road near San Onofre, impacting both sides of the freeway.
The military event will involve "live ammunition being discharged by the federal government over the freeway."
The closure caused heavy traffic congestion, with the freeway backing up just minutes after the closure took effect at 11 a.m. The freeway has since reopened on Saturday afternoon.
