A new international passenger rail line linking Mohan Railway Station in Mengla County, Yunnan Province, with Boten Railway Station in Laos began its trial operations on Monday, the Mengla County Integrated Media Center reported.
This is the first commuter-style international rail service between China and Laos, offering five round trips daily in both directions. The 16-kilometer route takes around 50 minutes, including stops at each country’s border ports for boarding and customs procedures.
“Safety, professionalism, and dedication” – this is the guiding principle of Yunnan Tourism Co Ltd, said Xia Mo, deputy general manager of the company. She noted that the line aims to let passengers feel “the convenience and warmth of this road of friendship.”
The new passenger service connects directly to the China–Laos Railway, allowing smooth intermodal transfers between road and rail for international travelers. According to the report, the route is expected to strengthen cross-border mobility and deepen regional connectivity.
The new China–Laos rail line marks a milestone in cross-border travel, offering seamless commutes that enhance regional cooperation and cultural exchange between the two nations.
