By Alise Valdes and Sadie Chafe, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. — George Washington knew the area's potential, visiting for the first time in 1748. The town was officially named Bath in 1776 due to its warm springs.
Today, Berkeley Springs State Park, known as America’s First Spa and the only state-run spa in the country, offers various activities. Visitors can fill bottles with spring water, wade in the shallow springs, or swim in the public pool filled with spring water, weather permitting.
The historic Old Roman Bath House provides a unique experience, featuring nine individual walk-in tubs for private soaking sessions.
