Cardinal Presides Over Act of Reparation in St. Peter's
Cardinal Mauro Gambetti, archpriest of St. Peter's Basilica, presided over a penitential rite of reparation at the main altar following a serious act of desecration.
The rite, attended by members of the chapter of the Vatican basilica, included a penitential procession, sprinkling the altar with holy water, and incensing it to purify it.
Emphasized asking God for "forgiveness" for the desecration
According to Father Enzo Fortunato, director of communications for St. Peter's Basilica, the rite aimed to seek forgiveness from God.
