Yakima Police Introduce a New Way to Hear from the Public

The Yakima Police Department has initiated a series of town hall meetings to address public safety concerns and engage with the community.

One of the first meetings, held at the Harman Center, attracted about 50 attendees.

Chief of Police Shawn Boyle explained the purpose of these gatherings: "We had a meeting with the criminal justice professionals in the community and the county and city, and it was a good discussion. There's a lot of work being done by the police officers in the criminal justice system, the judges, the defense attorneys, the courts, the jails, and we wanted to highlight what work we are doing.

According to Chief Boyle, the idea is for the police department to get out in the town, engage with the community, as one of the priorities for the city is safety and health.
