Utah GOP launches efforts to overturn voter-approved Prop 4, new congressional map

Utah GOP Launches Efforts to Overturn Voter-Approved Prop 4 and New Congressional Map

The Utah Republican Party has initiated two efforts to undo a voter-approved initiative and a recently approved set of congressional maps.

In Salt Lake City, Utah GOP Chair Rob Axson filed a citizen initiative to repeal Proposition 4, a 2018 measure that created an independent redistricting commission. Additionally, a referendum was filed to overturn the new congressional map passed by lawmakers in a recent special session.

Utah voters “did not understand what they were signing up for” when approving Proposition 4

Proposition 4, which passed with 50.34% of the vote, established a seven-member independent commission to draw and recommend congressional and legislative maps for the Utah Legislature’s approval. The measure received just over 512,000 votes in favor and 505,000 against.

The Utah GOP's efforts aim to reverse the decisions made by voters and lawmakers.
