UH Biology Student Contributes to Groundbreaking Cancer Discovery

A University of Houston biology student played a key role in a significant finding by MD Anderson Cancer Center researchers: the COVID vaccine can enhance immunotherapy treatment effectiveness, offering new hope to cancer patients worldwide.

Researchers presented their findings at the 2025 European Society for Medical Oncology Congress, revealing that patients who received mRNA-based COVID vaccines within 100 days of starting immunotherapy were twice as likely to survive three years after treatment as those who didn't receive the vaccine.
