New Guidance on Emergency Authorisations of Pesticides Explained

The HSE has published changes to the use of emergency authorisations for pesticide use, which it says 'clarify and strengthen' the guidance to ensure that anyone applying for an emergency authorisation must take full account of any risks posed to pollinators.

NFU Senior Regulatory Affairs Adviser Dr Chris Hartfield reports that the new guidance on emergency authorisations of pesticides has prompted concerns over “unintended consequences”.

The HSE says the changes it published in September 'clarify and strengthen' the guidance to ensure that anyone applying for an EA must take full account of any risks posed to pollinators.

These changes come as part of a government pre-election pledge to end the use of neonicotinoids under the EA regime.
