Trump Admin's Effort to Deploy National Guard to Portland Hindered by Legal Blunder
The Trump Justice Department has made a baffling legal mistake in its attempt to deploy the National Guard to Portland.
A U.S. District Judge, Karin Immergut, a Trump appointee, issued two temporary restraining orders (TROs) blocking the deployment of National Guard troops to Oregon.
- The first TRO blocked the Oregon Guard from deploying.
- The second TRO, issued to prevent the administration from circumventing the first order, blocked all Guards from any state and D.C.
The Trump administration only appealed the first order, which was paused by a 9th Circuit panel.
The DOJ claimed that since the two TROs were premised on the same reasoning, they are linked, and directed Immergut to dissolve her second TRO.
