England’s Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) has launched an urgent call for those eligible for a flu vaccination to book their appointments promptly before the peak of the flu season arrives.

Duncan Burton warned last week that this year’s flu season began unusually early, with especially high rates among children and young people.

The CNO emphasized that only weeks remain before the flu season typically worsens and urged eligible individuals to get vaccinated as soon as possible.
Who Is Eligible for the Flu Vaccine?
- People aged 65 and over
- Under-65s in clinical risk groups
- Care home residents and carers
- Pregnant women
- Close contacts of immunosuppressed individuals
- Frontline health and social care workers
- Children
Vaccination Progress
NHS England plans to open 2.4 million more vaccination slots next week. Since September, teams have administered over 13 million flu vaccines nationwide.
Additionally, nearly 60% of care home residents are now protected against flu, with 2.3 million vaccines given to eligible children.
“It was only weeks to go before the worst of the flu season typically bites,” said the CNO in the recent appeal.
